The current Broadway revival of James Goldman and Stephen Sondheim’s Follies, which began at The Kennedy Center, will transfer to the Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles for a six-week run beginning May 3. The production, which closes on Broadway on January 22, will run through June 9, with an official opening on May 9. Follies will fill the gap in the Ahmanson schedule left after the postponement of Funny Girl and the rescheduling of Fela! It has not been confirmed which members of the Broadway cast will appear in the Los Angeles production.
On the soon-to-be demolished stage of the crumbling Weismann Theatre, a reunion is being held to honor the Weissman Follies and the beautiful showgirls who were once its stars. As two couples remember their pasts and face the harsh realities of the present, the shadows of their younger selves remind them of the complicated steps they've danced, both on the stage and throughout their lives.Featuring a book by Goldman and music and lyrics by Sondheim, Follies contains well-known songs including “Broadway Baby,” “I’m Still Here,” “Too Many Mornings,” “Could I Leave You?” and “Losing My Mind.”
The Broadway revival, directed by Eric Schaeffer with choreography by Warren Carlyle, stars Bernadette Peters as Sally Durant Plummer, Jan Maxwell as Phyllis Rogers Stone, Danny Burstein as Buddy Plummer, Ron Raines as Benjamin Stone and Elaine Paige as Carlotta Campion, along with Don Correia as Theodore Whitman, Christian Delcroix as Young Buddy, Rosalind Elias as Heidi Schiller, Jayne Houdyshell as Hattie Walker, Colleen Fitzpatrick as Dee Dee West, Lora Lee Gayer as Young Sally, Michael Hayes as Roscoe, Florence Lacey as Sandra Crane, Mary Beth Peil as Solange LaFitte, David Sabin as Dimitri Weismann, Kirsten Scott as Young Phyllis, Frederick Strother as Max Deems, Nick Verina as Young Ben, Susan Watson as Emily Whitman and Terri White as Stella Deems.
